GENERAL INFORMATION
Dr. WARWICK CARTER
CURRICULUM VITAE
Dr.Warwick Carter was born in Tasmania in 1948. He graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1972, then worked as a Resident Medical Officer at Townsville General Hospital, followed by general practice work in Swan Hill, Victoria and then the United Kingdom. In 1976 he was the surgeon at the Grey Hospital, King William's Town, Ciskei, Africa. On his return to Australia in late 1976 he spent six months working at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane as the Casualty Registrar. He became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 1982.
GENERAL PRACTICE
From 1977 to 2005 he was the full time principal of a six doctor general practice in the western Brisbane suburb of Sumner. He sold the practice in 2005 and now works as a GP in that practice for 20 hours a week.
TEACHING
Dr. Carter was an Associate Professor in the School of Health Sciences and Medicine at Bond University on the Gold Coast from 2007 to 2011.

WRITING
Dr. Carter has written 24 books (including nine medical text books and 15 medical books for the public) which have a total circulation exceeding 4.5 million in eleven languages. He has also written hundreds of radio and television scripts, scores of patient education guides, and over three thousand magazine and newspaper articles.
MEDWORDS is a company owned by Dr. Carter which undertakes contract writing in many fields including newspaper articles, medical books, package inserts, radio scripts, computerised medical information, magazine articles, medical text books and medical text editing.

MEDICOLEGAL
Warwick Carter was deputy chair of the Avant Queensland Medical Experts Core Committee from 1994 until 2011, and from 2004 to 2009 he represented Queensland and general practitioners on the Avant National Medical Advisory Council.
He is now a member of the Queensland Board of the Medical Board of Australia, and the Professional Services Review Tribunal of the Commonwealth Department of Health.
Dr. Carter has been a Justice of the Peace since 1978.
COMPUTER SOFTWARE
Warwick Carter has written and successfully marketed seven computer programs under the name MacMaps in the areas of mapping, geography, history and medicine.
OTHER MEDIA
Warwick Carter was been involved in media work and public appearances at various functions for over thirty years. From 1984 to 1988, Dr. Carter spoke nationally on ABC radio as "Dr.Wickham of the AMA". He has also had his own television program “Healthy Living” on Channel Ten from 1984 to 1988 and has appeared on many other television programs as a medical expert.
